I'm thinking of buying a decent desktop machine for home, since I haven't had one at all for a couple of years (I just use a Thinkpad) and I'm starting to miss some it.
Requirements
Must have
- Decent CPU that supports hardware virtualisation
- Decent graphics card that can drive at least two LCDs
- Two LCDs, as big as I can afford
- Probably 4G RAM, maybe 8G
- Two disks, smallest that can be bought (storage is on the fileserver)
- DVD writer
Would be nice
- Gigabit network
Ideas
- Shuttle PCs look good. The only slot I'll need is for a graphics card
- I'll be using Debian or Ubuntu Linux and I'm told nvidia graphics cards works best at the moment
- I'm biased towards an AMD CPU at the moment, but not tied to it
- The Shuttle SX38P2 Pro looks ideal
